Posted By Mark Eden Arran I give you an opinion on the BBC report A very emotive report on a subject that stirs up a lot of controversy. A very brave expert that passes comment on a fire that has not yet been fully investigated by experts in the fire service backed up by forensic evidence. A lot of what has been said may be true and there are woeful inadequacies in the provision of fire safety in high rise blocks, but we must remember that the block owners are only responsible for carrying out a fire risk assessment in the communal areas not private dwellings (refer to the RRFSO)and that when these buildings were constructed they met with Building Regs, including fire safety requirements of the day.

Posted By Arran Linton - Smith My objective with this thread was simply to pass this information on to other members. If this provokes some debate then this is of additional interest. If it does not then I am quite happy that others are able to use this information particularly if it is of professional interest. Back in 2000 I posted a link about the publication of the draft ILO OSHMS guidelines. There were no responses to that thread, however as a result of the link I provided IOSH were able to quickly send out an observer to the ILO conference on this matter. I also recall that Allan St John Holt first informed us about the on-line publication of the 1999 Management Regs in exactly the same way.

Posted By Robert K Lewis Mark Looking at the horizontal spread of the fire the essence of the BBC report does not surprise me. How many of us have ever seen a non modified 1960s block? Not many I venture. Bob
