Is there any 'good' reason why scaffolders should not wear safety spec's on a construction site where eye protection is mandatory?

No, there is no reason why a scaff can't wear safety specs. Back in my time playing with the tube the only trouble I had was with steaming up goggles, we were not allowed to remove them as I used to work on chemical plants. This used to result in us walking round like Bela lagosi (spelling?) in The Mummy, a greater risk if you ask me.

Unless an assessment has identified why? Most defiantly not on sites I frequently visit.

The answer to that will answer your question.

Having been in the scaffolding trade for alot of years and complying to the wearing of LEP, there are at times when wearing LEP can put you more at risk, such as when working close to steam leaks, when sweating and in confined spaces when there is a glare effect due to lighting. I dont really know the answer without having to remove your LEP.
