Hi gentle men,
please clarify
As per BS EN 60204 & BS 7671, the RCD rating has to be 30milli amps.
I still see in construction sites there are panel boards/distriution boards provided with 100 milli amps RCD. These panel boards are of UL/BS standards.
how can we justify the use of 100 milliamps RCD.
Cheers.
Jesu

Hi s_jesu,
i have purchased today a 100mA RCD and this will be fitted to a customers premises in the next few days.
It is a time delayed type, with downstream 30mA instantaneous RCBO's.
There is nothing wrong with a 100mA RCD when applied according to the requirements of the installation.
BS EN 60204 has no relevance for fixed wiring installations, only for machinery.
The exact application has to be understood prior to any valid detail being provided.
Also, there is no requirement under BS7671 for every installation to be upgraded to the current version as they are released.
I can go on for hours, PM if you want...
Paul

Hi s_jesu,
In addition to BS EN 60204-1 being a standard for the electrical equipment of machines, not for installations, it doesn't specify 30 mA RCDs. It does state that the setting of RCDs shall be as low as possible consistent with correct operation of the equipment.
RCDs are not mandatory for electrical equipment of machines.
