Posted By davinareilly Hi I am looking for a suitable lone worker alarm for our staff. We work as condition monitors at various oil and gas, petrochem, chemical and other sites. our staff often work on their own on these sites - a long way from central offices or control rooms. We need something that will work at distance from the site office, can be used as an activated alarm or motion stillness/ tilt alarm in intrinsicly safe areas where the radio signal will not interfere with local radio signals. Any help?

Posted By Ian MacAskill We use a system from ANT Telecom - search online. Basically, IP 65 rated mobile phones with four buttons on the front - movement and tilt sensors built in etc... They dial up to a PC and in an event the PC escalates an emergency call to pre-defined phone numbers. Used the system for a couple of years now with no complaints (well - it is quite expensive to buy)

Posted By Bob Youel there are movement and non-movement / horizontal and vertical types some automatic and some are not depending on what you want the only thing I am not sure of is the ability to work in that environment as its only recently that such kit has been available for high street working where before that it was refineries and the like because of signal coverage problems

Posted By Ross Stirton Hi, Having re-read your initial post, do I take it that your company is not the dutyholder for the sites? If your personnel are effectively 'visitors', it is extremely unlikely that you will be allowed to bring any such equipment onto the (oil and gas)site without it being vetted by the site 'Authorised Person - Electrical'. It is also highly unlikely that 'visitors' would be allowed on such sites unsupervised (certainly in the UK). Does the site operator(s) not have mechanisms to track to personnel on their site(s)? Posted By davinareilly Hi Our workers are consultant engineers who work on client sites (various industry sectors) where we monitor process equipment - condition monitoring (vibration analysis, thermography, noise analysis etc) we do not own the sites or have a permanent presence (site office at some) Some of the sites do not provide a lone working alarm or other "buddying" system. The work is not suitalbe or financially viable for 2 person work. Clients are aware of our lone working on a selection of their processes where we monitor then provide a report of our findings, this goes to their own maintenance dept for repair or replace where necessary. They often do not allow some monitors and I am aware that they will need to approve it first, but if I can find some examples used by other companies that are not too expensive, do not require major installation at the client sites, are intrinsically safe etc. It has been an ongoing problem for us for some time. Staff are often not allowed their mobile phones either. We had an incident recently where a worker became dizzy and collapsed, luckily he was seen by someone, he could have been out of view and no-one would have known of his illness. Some of our client sites do not have a system available to use.
