Posted By Dave Daniel Trevor: UK construction safety law does not apply outside the UK and EC safety directives (CDM is based on an EC directive) does not apply outside the EC. Unless Kenya has it's own legal requirements for such a plan, which I doubt, you are not required to produce one. You should check with your Kenyan contacts as to how to manage construction projects there, since you will be governed by local national regulations, not UK law. Even if the workers go out from the UK, they will not be working under UK safety law when they work outside the UK.

Posted By CAW I don't see any harm in producing a health and safety plan as if it was a UK CDM project. At least it gets you thinking on the right lines. Appendix 3 of Managing health and safety in construction gives an outline template. This HSE pubication (L144) is now available as a free download from HSE Books.

Posted By Stephen If I was in your position I would produce a Health & Safety Plan, at least you will be able to manage the H&S aspects of the project in a way you understand. You could always use the ILO Code instead of the CDM regs, but they are very similar: http://www.ilo.org/publi...n/safework/cops/english/ Cheers Stephen

Posted By Jay Joshi Although you may not wish to make all the specific appointments as a client and use the same terminology etc, a lot of what is in CDM is good construction projects practice. There is excellent IOSH Guidance titled, "Global best practices in contractor safety" and has useful checklists http://www.iosh.co.uk/fi...balbestpract030502wv.pdf

Posted By grim72 From my experience, you will be hard pushed to find more stringent H&S policies than within the UK. I'd be amazed if they have anywhere near as comprehensive plans in Kenya.
