Posted By Ian Bruce We have a football pitch (hard court) in my place of work, which is used for sport activity as part of our normal working day. We have risk assessments prepared that include the need to perform an informal visual inspection prior to play by the activity leader to check for ground condition, goal post location and security etc. My question is, should we formalise this? I think we should, say with a formal weekly visual nspection against a checklist. What do other folks think? Has anyone any experience of this or a standard that should be applied to such inspections; maybe someone from the education sector? Thanks in advance.

Posted By Peter F. I think your right in formalising this, especially as we get into the winter months it will ensure that the staff are checking not only the condition of the surface but they can also then determine if the playing conditions are OK taking into account wet, icy conditions for the games being played. We have had to deal with a couple of claims with the injured person citing that the surface was damaged and one that the conditions that they were allowed to play in were to wet!
