Posted By Mike Craven I am aware that under the current legislation (RRFSO 2005) there is a requirement to carry out fire safety risk assessments in shared/common areas of domestic properties (flats, maisonettes, sheltered housing, etc). Am I correct in thinking (and possibly telling management) that this is not new, and that the same duty/requirement existed previously under the 1997 Fire Precautions (Workplace) Regulations? Thanks, Mike

Posted By Mike Craven Thanks for this Adrian Shame though - I was looking forward to telling one or two people that they should have been doing this 12 years ago! Still, at least I can say that they have had three years to do all this work that they have had to cram into the last few weeks! Mike

Posted By D. Hilton It would not be considered a new requirement only in the context of the work being carried out at that time not being defined as construction work or where the construction regulations applied. In these cases the common areas would have been exempted. Of course, fire safety and risk should have been addressed under the '74 Act etc
