Posted By Luke. A little feel good example that recently happened to me. I have recently been focusing on hearing protection on site as i had noticed that a lack of it was being worn. Apart from the 'forgetful' few, it has generally been well received and when pulling people up on it, they have been more than polite. I had one elderly chap nearing retirement that always used the excuse, my hearing has already gone so i do not need to bother. I sat him down, had a cup of tea with him and listened to him talk about the old days and how they have ruined his life (ill heath due to no H&S). When we finished, i asked him if he had his hearing checked recently - he hadn't. I told him to go and speak to the GP and maybe look at getting them syringed. The other day, i arrived on site and he was riding some plant with hearing protection on, he stopped came over to me and with a big smile proceeded to tell me how he can hear again! .. turns out the ear syringe worked a treat! and he was the happiest i have ever seen him! He has told me that he is determined not to damage his hearing now and is preaching to everyone on site about hearing protection! .. he is now speaking to the young guys who are "invincible" and it seems to be working well! It was such a small thing, that took 10 minutes of my time, but it has made such a difference in his life. I have had a pretty stressful, crappy few months and that has just made it all worth while. And people wonder why we do our job! Just wanted to share that with my fellow peers!
