Hi guys, I am looking for some assistance regarding my MSc Dissertation. Having worked as a leading University's Construction Safety Manager and worked with many design teams on the implementation of BREEAM I am trying to write a disseration on a particularly edgy and controversial paper on the "Is BREEAM and the development of sustainable construction techniques actually worth it" (or words to that effect)

The principle behind this would be along the lines of doe’s effective design and planning actually improve sustainability, safety and quality on projects or is the client being driven by public perception and corporate and social responsibilities and ultimately paying a high price for a building they cannot effectively manage!

I am aware that this is a big topic for late on a friday afternon but I thought that I would give you something to mul over whilst you while the hours away till the end of the day. Your thoughts would be most welcome. I am aware that you are all very busy people but I hope that you agree this would be a challenging paper to right especially if the outcome was in favour of decreasing the use of BREEAM. Would it be possible for you guys to give the above some consideration and e-mail me back with your thoughts and ideas on the above? (good or bad)

thanks in anticipation Anthony

In my limited experience of BREEAM I'm not aware that it has any positive impact on safety during the construction phase of a building probably because it's all about enviromental efficiency and performance of the building. Sorry can't offer any more thoughts.

thanks Yulkok, your right BREEAM does focus on environmental efficiency and building performance. What I am really trying to establish is as we have an ageing workforce who may or may not be conversant with modern sustainable technologies is it becoming increasingly difficult for contractors to actually install what the BREEAM assesor dictates our building should include?
