Has anybody joined The American Society of Safety Engineers? If so, have they found it a benefit?

I have been a member for some ten years now , I like the journal 'Professional Safety' picked up some good training material for example, on behavioural safety. Also came across the US Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board (CSB) which produces some execellent training material (free) e.g. on the Texas City incident
Quite a bit of Process Safety in the journal. To some extent it can depend which industry you are in , myself , being in the oil industry helps, as a lot of the standards used are of American origin.
My firm bought the ASSE 'Safety Profesionals Handbook' for me, which I have found usefull. There is a UK chapter , but no real activity.

Hi Chris
As an employee I worked for an American owned Global Corporation and obviuosly found ASSE very useful and the monthly mag Professional Safety. It was also extremely useful when I was doing my MSc especially my dissertation on Behaviourla Safety, as the Americans are a bit ahead of the game on the 'softer' side of H&S. I would aslo agree with the previous posting on training, the oil indsutry and the UK Chapter.

I was a member for several years whilst I was employed by a US global company here in UK but found that I much preferred the UK published safety press to their mag. Whilst there was the occasional good piece, too much was really only applicable to US based practitioners or those applying OSHA codes.
The UK Chapter appears to exist only as a theoretical group and I was never aware of any specific activities.
As the mag was the only benefit of membership that I could see was any possible use to me I chose to terminate my membership once I became self-employed in UK.
