If you are awaiting the ratification body to upgrade you to Grad IOSH status you will have to wait until your confirmation letter and certificate is sent to you. In that package there will be an application form for IPD and there are 2 options on it which are, you are ready to begin IPD or you do not want to start at this time and would later on. When you are ready to start you shall fill out the form and tick the option stating that you are ready to start your IPD and send it back to IOSH with the relevant payment stated on the form. Once the form is processes IOSH will send you a package with how do you go about completing your IPD and Skills Development Portfolio (SDP) on your journey toward chartered member status. I hope this information was useful to you.

From what I remember there may be a timescale (5 years?) for completion once at GradIOSH stage if you want to ciontinue on the CMIOSH route, you would need to check with IPD membership for the specifics if it not listed in your covering letter re IPD etc

Maybe this could be clarified? I was informed, rightly or wrongly, that a GradIOSH member does NOT have to go for CMIOSH but can remain at GradIOSH for whatever time period he /she wishes??

There isn't a limited period of time that you have to complete your IPD. Once you have registered to complete your IPD we will contact you periodically to see how you are getting on and normally we like members to have completed the IPD process within 5 years. In reality when members make a start on their IPD a majority complete it within 2 years. If you don't want to start your IPD or you know that due to other commitments you will be unable to start your IPD for a period of time if you let the IPD team know we will put your IPD record on hold and we will stop contacting you to see how you are progressing. We will however make a note to contact you in 6, 12 or more months to see if you are ready to start your IPD. If in the meantime you decide you are ready to start your IPD you can contact us and we will reactivate your record.
If you decide to start your IPD after a period of time make sure that you contact the IPD Department to make sure that there haven't been any changes to the process. IPD is changing and developing all the time and will continue to do so to take into consideration changes in the profession. IPD will always be inplace and completing IPD is your only route to Chartered membership.
To speak to one of the IPD Team please call 0116 257 3364 and we can then put you through to your designated IPD Officer.
If you decide to remain a Graduate member for the time being then you must maintain your CPD. Failure to do this can put your Graduate membership in jeopardy.
