Hi all,
I need to do some work assessing the slip resistance of an outside sports pitch. In order to measure and gain real data rather than react on "feeling" I'll need to either appoint someone to measure for me or use an idiot proof device.
I seem to remember slip resistance "slip-ometers" being available, but I can't find anything on web searches or past copies of SHP. Does anyone have any experience of this or a contact who can do the work for me?
Maybe I need to look a bit harder to find the information but I've spent ages already and drawn a blank, any advice gratefully received.

Hi, I know that HSL in Buxton have done plenty of work regarding floors and footwear but whether that extends to outdoor sports I don't know. May be worth a call to them.

I think I know what you are thinking of. If you do a google search for surtronic it should throw up results for what you are looking for. I have never used these before so don't know how good/accurate they are.

Good place to start would be the link below on the HSE website. However, if you're looking at an astro turf surface then devices linked from here and this type of measurement may not be the most suitable. This considers the microroughness of a surface.

You may need to look in more detail at the coefficient of friction and the pendulum test, which is more detailed and may require someone from outside your organisation to carry out. Try the FAQ page of the link below.

Hope this is of some help.
