I have been tasked with writting a method statement for Torch on felt roof with primar.
Having never done this before has anyone done this type of work before who can give me some directions as I have just started this job I don't want to miss anything

All help will be greatly recieved

get the staff doing the job to undertake the task - you facilitate the activity - writing something yourself where you have no experience puts you in a position of danger and the end product may not be suitable and sufficient

Bob is right - the roofers should write it. However: do not let them torch directly onto a timber deck, use auto shut off (peizo ignition) torches and look out for flammable materials in and under the upstands and detail areas. A lot of fires start due to hidden smouldering rubbish. The primer must have fully dried if solvent based. I assume you know all the WAH stuff.

Don't forget your Hot Work Permit procedure.

The workers should complete the permit and provide their own, appropriate fire extinguisher/s.

I know this does not apply to this job but never ever allow a tar boiler onto a roof.

Remember if removing any sections of olf felt, or debris it may contain chrysotile (white) asbestos.

It's not something that I am especially familar with but you may want to look at these links - I believe that the fire was caused by contractors carrying out repairs to a roof or roof felting (more than happy to be corrceted on that). The fire caused major damage and I would think some considerable problems for the company and their staff, many of whom lost their jobs as a result of the fire.

Hot work permit screams out to me, and among other things that means that an appropriate fire extinguisher(s) should be READILY and IMMEDIATELY available and if necessary a 'safety man' posted.
