Dont know if this is the right forum for this, but i just need to know what to do.
Just concluded my Nebosh National Diploma in Occupational health and safety, and i have been applying.
All the replys coming back says lack of experience. If i dont get hired by someone first, where will the experience come from? Please if you can help what do i do?

It is a bit chicken and egg. Try trawling through old posts on this forum for advice, a lot will say the same thing and answer your question. Things like doing a bit of voluntary work, ie Risk Assessments for charitable organisations, or if your are currently working, but not in H&S, try and take on a bit of H&S stuff in your current role, will crop up again and again. Comntact the recruitment agencies and have them looking for you, let them know your level of experience and look for a more junior role.

Best of luck.

Also look at the "New to H&S" post on this forum. Good advice on there.

Quick question

How did you manage to complete Unit D of the NEBOSH Dip, if you arent in work ?

As you know to complete Unit D you will need access to a workplace / employer. The only exception to this is that you have had to made the employer up inorder to complete the Unit.

One plus point for you is that potential employers do not need to fund the dip hence reducing an expensive training cost for a potential employer. You could also try LA's to see if you can get experience there as well.

Have a look again at your CV, if you are working now it is very very likely you will have experience in H&S possibly without realising it. For instance the majority of people have carried out a Risk Assessment, they say they haven't buteven if you've crossed the road without getting run down, you've carried out a risk assessment. If you operate a machine at work without getting hurt or killed you've carried out a risk assessment. The trick is to write them down. Many people at work have done Health & Safety stuff without realising it is Health & Safety. So back to the drawing board, follow the advice given by the others , have some patience and it will happen

Best of luck

Sorry, but you have now reached exactly the same barrier that every one of us comes against. As difficult as it may seem, try not to feel too downhearted as passing a qualifications doesnt give us a right to get a job immediately - although it does motivate us to keep trying.

Some choices; start off with HSE as a secondary job assisting, voluntary work with HSE, trying to keep waiting until a dream HSE job comes along by which time you will be skint and demotivated -your choice. Keep trying, its the only option.

Are your transferable skills being linked to new job applications? Look at your CV and covering letter(s). Are you emphasising any transferable skills? If so, are you giving these as much prominence as they deserve?
