I am in the process of producing RA/MS for my company who have been awarded a contract for working alongside a major trunk road, implementing drainage piping at night, involved will be excavators, traffic management, tipping lorries etc. Putting together RA/MS for the work is fine but the differance to normal woks is that we have got to carry out the majority of the work through the night!
Has anybody done anything similar, or what i should focus on for nightworking involving construction work?

Lighting and traffic management being the obvious ones. Visibilty of any overhead lines and the weather spring to mind as other considerations but I'm sure others will add a lot more.

Fatigue would rate high with night work, including rest periods and so on. You may also wish to consider emergency arrangements and welfare facilities.

I’d agree with all the above, particularly with RR. You should also address SAD; stress, health assessments; night work restrictions; permits to operate & excavate etc.
Lots of information on HSW website and others.

Not an area of expertise for me but from a layman's point of view depending on the location you may need to consider noise pollution - especially if residents are located nearby? On-site security may need to be considered too and any lone-worker concerns. I'd also take extra care with regard to any shift handovers as attention to detail can be easily lost when tired.

You should be aware that you need to offer medical assessments prior to night working to comply with the working time regs

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned visibility for the workers. While it is important to carry out RA's and write MS's safety of the workforce must be paramount.
