Frankhone -

The new forum has a Private Messaging facility - you can use this by clicking on the PM icon at the bottom of a post - this way you can send something directly to the poster.

Hope this helps,

Winnie

What is MISSING is the ability to send attachments which would aid the requestor of info and hence the question around live emails (I believe) and I find annoying as well as I have to send a request for email address before I can help a fellow forum user.

New forum all whistles and bells ... I don't think so, more like going backwards.

On the other hand, on the old forum, a great many users hid their e-mails, for a variety of reasons. At least with a PM you can contact anyone.

Yes Jane you are absolutly right so the PM is a great tool for those that wish to hide there E-Mail but still wish to receive PMs but for the bolder of us who would just like to attach a document requested & send it the lve mail was as isaid a great & missed tool of the forum.

Must admit I find it frustrating not being able to send attachments without going through the rigmarole of PMing each other several times before you get the necessary info. If the option is there to opt out of allowing people access to your email then I don't see where the problem is.

I was going to send you a spreadsheet to start a petition to get the feature back, but I couldn't be bothered to PM you for your email address ;-)

I like the new system. I don't need to show my e-mail address, it protects me from over zealous consultants and also from people I don't want to have direct contact with. Let me explain that last part before you start shouting at me.

My work leaves me exposed to some people who might not agree with me or my stance in H&S. I have, in the past, identified one such person on the old site who was getting tore into me (although they were wise enoughg not to name me directly) but I new them.

As a result I found the old site could be very limiting to me. With the new site you can PM someone and give them your e-mail address and sent attachments outside of the constraints of the IOSH site.

I therefore like the new PM part and like that my e-mail is only available to those people I want it to be.

As with others on this thread I'm pro email availability, IF the web team relent and re-instate email availability perhaps on your personal pages there could be an opt out tick box for those who do not wish to show their emails and PM only.
How would that swing it Sky?

Web team any chance of this happening?

PHP has a direct email function that will let you compose and send an email directly to a registered site user. That email address is not visible to the user and no attachements are possible so its really no different to sending a PM. I'm not surprised that this hasn't been included here.

Another possibility for those like me who are prepared to identify themselves fully, and thus stand by what they say, is to include in a footer to every post some relevent detail including perhaps a current email address.

The site owners may have issues with that, or for some other reason have chosen not to activate it.

It's a bit of a bore, but if you really want to use email perhaps the site owner/operators would consider the addition of these footers, automatically or entered on each occasion?
