I've always followed the guidance that exit routes should be >900mm wide (or 750mm if it can be guaranteed that wheelchair access is not required).

My question is, is there any guidance for retail shopping aisles......safety or otherwise...?

Here's hoping

Hi Ian
We try to maintain a minimum of 1.2m with an ideal of 1.5m where possible for our retail outlets. Not sure where I got the original dimension from - I think it was somewhere in the guidance when the DDA act came into force. Hope this helps.

How wide should retail aisles be?

Wide enough to turn a double buggy round. This answer has nothing to do with regs just a plea from a frustrated parent!!
