Tried to follow the link to the new rules on avatars as posted in the sticky. But the link doesn't seem to want to work. And I can't post on the sticky.. Could we get a working link please?

Sorry all - link should be now working in the sticky but link is:

http://www.iosh.co.uk/ne..._blog_rules.aspx#Avatars

or there is a menu tab on the top of the forums called Forum Rules which will take you there - rule 22 applies.

And as we can't reply in the announcement thread (why not by the way?) can I ask if there is a maximum size for Avatars? If so can it be added to the Avatar section in the forum rules please.

Hi Heather,

You cannot reply in the annoucement thread, it is used by use only to provide information to the forums.

In answer to your question, The forum avatars can be any size but will be re-sized to approximately 100x100 pixels or to the nearest 100 px depending on the length/width of the image.

We will release a step by step guide in an annoucement with how to add an avatar in due course.

thanks

Andy

Show off! :P

Can't browse to my usual hosting site while at work as photo sites are banned so I can't try it out but I assume from the info provided in the profile update page you have to link to a remotely hosted image rather than upload if you don't want a standard forum Avatar?

File size limit?

I can't see yours or martinw's Safety smurf but that might just be the internet police here blocking it....

I can see Andy's and Teh_Boy's though. Is that becasue theirs are uploaded and yours are linked to?

There is no file size limit as it stands, You can use any image available to you by right clicking on the image and selecting "Properties" this should show you a "address" or "URL" you can copy this and paste it into the URL location within "Modify Avatar"

I'm very tempted to change mine to the Superman logo....

Have fun

Andy

Safety Smurf -

Looks like you might have copied your link incorrectly - try again! We'll be posting a full help guide up later today - well done to those of you who are quick off the mark - haven't even managed to get mine sorted yet!

Heather Collins -

Spot on - you need to provide a link to something remotely hosted from a site like flickr. There isn't a file size limit as it will be automatically formatted to the standard size.

Looking forward to seeing what everyone posts!

I just linked to an external internet image - I am limited by firewall too so no access to facebook and my headstand pictures as yet :(
