Hi I am looking for some advice. What procedures do other organisations have in place for the monitoring and treatment of external water features. How extensive should the treatment processes be. I can not find any definitive advice for this in L8 or on the HSE website

It's the old cliche of risk assessment, which should tell you how often you should inspect teh condition and this should in turn tell you if you need to clean, disinfect or descale. L8 does mention something around this but not much, check Table 3 of Appendix 1 in L8. Goose.

Hi, just rushing off to work so will be very quick. Yes it is the old RA scenario, but just off the top of my head, othere than the usual questions of droplet size, and people being exposed, is the temperature of the water is likely to 'assist' with the proliferatrion of L?

Yes thanks for this! I will go back to the findings of the risk assessment and check the credentials of the organisation who carried out the work.

If it's any help to you, in my capacity as an LA authorised officer, I've been to quite a few HSE-led training events on Legionella and they have never mentioned external water features as a source of an outbreak or as an area for concern.
