Hi
There have recently been requests via the EHS committe for some Health and safety scenario training. I personally have not had any experience in putting together scenario training. The training will be delivered via a toolbox talk method by team leaders.
Has anyone go any examples of scenario training they have carried out at their workplace? If so I would appreciate a copy to give me some idea's. I understand that the training would be site pecific but it may point me in the right direction on how to present the training at my site. Subjects such as First aid emergencys, chemical spills would be useful.

Thanks for your help.

Chris - seems quite simple to me. Get a drum of water and spill it in the yard and treat it as a chemical spill and see how your teams react.
Similarly, create a first aid emergency - get a couple of people to role play an electric shock, or feeling faint etc and see how the team respond.
Similar to doing evacuation training wuith the fire alarm.

Think of the worst things that can happen within your work place and simulate them.

Record your findings and deal with any non conformances.

Or am I on the wrong track?

Hi David
Thanks for your reply. I was thinking more of theory exercises rather than physical emergency drills.

Hi Chris - are you in a high risk industry then?.
Police and emergency services carry out these desk top exercises out when there is little chance to recreate the conditions.

One I am aware of is that of a rescue helicopter carrying casualties direct to hospital landing pad when it crasfes and catches fire. All the rescue services are then asked to detail what they would do.

What industry are you in?

Hi Chris,

I agree with David about the use of a table top exercise. I used to be employed at a COMAH Top Tier site where the use of table top exercises and live play exercises was a mandatory requirement.

If you give me some contact details I will assist you where I can in the development of a table top exercise.

Cheers

Scott

Hi David
I operate on a chemical manufacturing and storage site (Lower Tier COMAH Site). We do run Live exercised to cover some emergency situations on a annual basis.

We are going to use the new desk top exercises as a intermediate exercise to re-enforce correct procedures at a local level which will supplement the annual live mandatory exercises. We only want the desk top exercises to last for 20-30 minutes and we hope to run them on a regular basis throughout covering all emergency sitations.

Scott
Thanks for your offer of support. I will PM you with my details and would appreciate any assistance you may be able to offer.

Thanks everyone
