Hello All I'm preparing TBT for the equipment within our workshops and was hoping somebody would have a TBT for the safe operation of a Hydraulic Press that they wouldn't mind sharing.
We mainly use the press for separating shafts and bearing housings.
Thanks for any assistance offered.

Mark, If I understand correctly, I have one of these units, I can't really justify calling them a machine as they are manually operated.
Ours is only allowed to be used by qualified tradesmen, maintenance fitters etc. This being the case, how about getting the users together and rather than preach to them in the traditional TBT stylie, you go “off the wall”?
Perhaps something like: “Right then you lot, I’ve got to train/remind you on how to use this safely. You are the experts, you all know each other and me, how about one way of this thing hurting you/causing damage from each of you? (You know how to use it and how to do it safely as none of you have been hurt/damaged anything?). So… Perhaps they have so start with that?
Make notes and get them to write the TBT for you.
They all should know how to use the thing safely, what to look out for, what can get damaged, what injury can be caused, what bits can hurt you, the only thing I suspect that they may not realise is PPE, and the why for the PPE?
Anyway, just a thought, it would be the way I would treat this as it is such a common piece of equipment, manually operated, and these people should already know how to use it correctly and safely otherwise it would be a formal training session not a TBT?
Maybe I’m wide of the mark?...

Mark, Without knowing too much about your workplace, I would suggest; There should be an existing risk assessment for this piece of equipment, do you have this?
If not, you need to do a risk assessment (involve experienced, competent users) applying the 'five steps' to risk assessment, consult manufacturers handbook for the equipment, and then apply controls hierarchy for safe operation and use.
A TBT can then be produced from the information gathered from the above steps.
