I heard Chris Evans this morning talking about health and safety and perhaps that could be the next challenge, he does one every week, i.e. golf, tennis, ice hockey and as they have discussed H&S recently they have an idea about doing one re H&S. They mention the usual negative things like staying awake, so here is an opportunity for IOSH to get some excellent publicity and raise the correct profile. I suggest that someone at IOSH contact the BBC and offer to provide a training course, before another organisation gets in, but it must be a good training course delivered by an excellent presenter who is entertaining as well as informative. These challenges are filmed and played on BBC 2 website.

I didn't hear this mornings programme but this first cropped up in yesterdays show at about 08:15. I e mailed the show yesterday and also made the media team aware. They are already on the case. Although someone was even quicker off the mark in e mailing him (no idea if they were an IOSH member though) to offer the breakfast show team a place on a course. I offered them a place on branch event we are running shortly on "flashover" training to get them rigged in BA and full fire gear and attack a fire (but they will have to do the briefing and classroom bits first.

rayh, that sound exciting enough for them to see the dangers, and feel the heat, if the presenter is good they would enjoy that. Also it could be good on film, rather than a classroom all day. I wonder how Chris Evans will decide on what to do? Will he decide himself and possible choose a crap trainer and be thoroughly bored, or go with something like you have offered? Good luck!

Hi Chris, The IOSH Media team has already contacted the Chris Evans Show following Ray's tip off about yesterday's programme (thanks Ray!) offering to help them with health and safety training. As yet, we've not heard anything from them, but we'll keep on trying. Paul Marston Media Officer IOSH

Thanks for the reply Paul, Yes, do keep on trying, I think it is important that something like this is coordinated to ensure it is professionally handled to avoid yet another "health and safety" myth. Could you let us know here what, if anything, you have in mind for Chris Evans if he does make contact?

Chris Depends on how he wants to play it I suppose, dispel the myth that all OH&S is "boring" or reinforce the view that it is. To be fair to him when he did an interview with me on a particular H&S story (back in 2008) he was very receptive (and I don't think he was bored by the end of it). Anyway the media team are onto it so good luck guys.

A tenner in it for you if you douse him in petrol first before letting loose near the fire. ;-)

I know you're not serious but that's not what we want to see on this forum. Some of us actually like Chris Evans, I'm sure his family do.

I hope he does not see this, he would probably read in out on air!

I wish to apologise for my earlier post introducing humour into what we must maintain as a grey, dour, subject that is health and safety. I am sure that Radio 2 would agree that H&S is no laughing matter. Hey, perhaps that is what Mr Evans should attempt as his challange, trying to get any humour or mirth onto the discussion forum !!
