Hi,
I am wondering where can I find guidance &/or standard for the requirements of disabled person in terms of parking lots (number, dimensions, signs), ramps, distance of parking (to office), doors, lifts, passage ways .. etc

I have taken a look at DDA but no details / specifications mentioned.

Thanks in advance

There is much around - but as a helpful yardstick the planning portal here:

http://www.planningporta...bcapproveddocumentslist/

will be helpful. Just scroll to Part M and you should be looking for the May 2006 version. There may have been some amendments since then so I can't be 100% certain it is a currently definitive document in its entirety.

Some of the others will probably come in handy which is why I have given you the portal link.

Do remember you can exceed the minimum stated facilities/sizes etc.

I do know that the widely used software for designers of car parks does have the information embedded into it but I do not know where it came from directly. I will however raise this at our diversity working party meeting on Friday as i think this is a resource that needs to be identified for S&H Practitioners

Hi Amjad

The Employers forum on disability used to do a really good booklet called 'open for business' which gave guidance on the recommendations for all sorts of disabled access (good practice rather than regs).

I cannot see it listed on their list of current publications but if you contact them, they may be producing the same information under a different title.

Hope this helps.

Is this something you are doing as a risk assessment for a disabled person? If so, aside from the rules and regs. you should also consider the individual who may have needs different from any set out in stone. The individual should be part of any assessment and any special requests need to be taken on board.

I think this is a good time to remind everybody tat the EU have recently published a document cncerning diversity in Risk Assessment

This is very good and thought provoking

There is a British Standard, BS 8300:2009:-"Design of buildings and their approaches to meet the needs of disabled people. Code of Practice", but it is fairly expensive costing £ 240=00, with a 50% discount for BSI members.

Hi Amjad,

As the previous posts have commented, Part M and BS8300 would be the most obvious sources of information as they are very similar in content, and very detailed.

However, if you don't feel inclined to read through those two large documents (or suffer from insomnia), you might find the summary guide from the Centre for Accessible Environments 'Designing for Accessibility' of more use. It's also considerably cheaper than the BS, although Part M is free to download.

Out of curiousity, what do you need the information for? Are you looking to carry out an audit of premises, advise on general modification or adapt the workplace for someone in particular?

All, many thanks for the responses -

CFT the link is very useful -

ChrisBurns and Jez, I was looking for the information so as to assess the current status of the parking lots that allocated to disabled persons. (Trying to find a reliable yardstick to measure the current status) -

Thanks all -

Amjad
