I have been asked to provide a brief course for a team of employee safety rep's, I already have the basics but I want to ensure that I don't miss something obvious. What topics should be included within the day course? Does anyone have any material that I would be able to have a look at to ensure that I am giving the right message. Thanks, Richard

Hi Richard, I had to develop a new course of training for our safety reps last year. All I would say is stick to what's relevent to their workplace only and focus on the practical rather than legal. It's not going to hurt anybody if they can't quote the first aid at work regs but might hurt somebody if they don't know who the 1st aider is. The course I developed is 1 day and is split into 5 subject modules. Each module is concluded with a test.

Richard The oil sector have a course for employee safety reps. In the quarrying sector a representatives course for employee reps was agreed with the TUC. If you leave out the references to the specific sector issues, both course documents may be of some use. Links below www.opito.com/library/in...afety_representative.pdf www.unionlearn.org.uk/ed...m#_Health_&_Safety_2 The TUC one can be found under the title 'Health & Safety in the Quarrying Industry. Cheers. Nigel
