Hi all, I am carrying out interviews this week for a health & safety administrators position, I am the interviewer. As it is the first time that I have carried out an inteview I am looking for some questions that I could give them. What about giving them a scenario to work on? Any tips or help would be much appreciated. Regards Paul

Is this a wind up? Only you now what the company require - and your questions need to find the information to that end. I would suggest that if you have no interviewing experience, you get someone who has - to come and guide you in the process. Remember, the person who is being interviewed is expecting to be interviewed by someone who knows what they are doing! Get real chum - this is peoples emotions you are playing with!! David

David, This is not a wind up, do you think I would be asking for advice from fellow IOSH members if it was a wind up. It is people like you with your narrow minded and pedantic comments that make people stay away from this forum. People come on here to ask for advice and do not want to hear snotty little comments from people like you!! As for your comments of "get real chum - this is peoples emotions you are playing with' What exactly do you mean by that?? As for your comment regarding knowing what I am doing, I will not even bother wasting my time responding to that comment. Apologies to anyone else who is reading this but David has really got my back up on this one, I came on here asking for advice and some possible scenarios that I could use and all I get from David is a load of dribble! If anybody has got any advice to assist me please feel free. Thanks in advance

Paul - your question was so vague and infuriatingly short of information to back up your request, I thought it was a wind up. How about we send you some questions about wellhead control. That would be fine if you were asking about well control - but we do not know what you want questions about. You state this is your first time - you ask for questions without giving a clue as to what about and you expect people to bow tow? As for playing with peoples emotions, jobs are hard to come by these days. When you ask people to interview, you start to build their hopes up - and they expect the interviewer to be able to do his job effectively. David

As the job is an 'Administrator', I'm assuming you don't need an H&S professional - I'd be interested in the candidates skills and experience in organising, office duties, record keeping, people skills etc etc - knowledge of H&S would be a bonus, but not essential

Hi Slater. You could ask how they are going to help you make the best use of your time - organise your diary, act as the gatekeeper with telephone calls etc, + you could ask about their experience of managing systems, statistics etc to draw out their skills in using eg. excel. Hope you find a good candidate. Puzzled as to why a perfectly reasonable question appears to have generated a wee diatribe. Regards, Peter

Peter & Alan, Thank your for your constructive comments, very much appreciated. I also thought it was a perfectly normal question to ask. Unfortunately one forum user did not appear to see it this way and decided to make non constructive comments regarding my question. Thanks again Peter & Alan Regards Paul
