If something is already in the public domain i.e printed in the Liverpool Echo including the link so the information is obtained from sorce why do you have to lock out the post so we cant comment on it? Where's the breach if its already printed in a newspaper?

Julian I am rather surprised that you have asked the question. Could I suggest that you: a. check the forum rules b. aquaint yourself with the principle of 'sub judice' - a quick google search would lead you in the right direction!

Sometimes it appears the tabloids get away with whatever they choose. Notwithstanding that, smaller organisations and individuals are more likely to be accused of sub-judice than others with more resources. The media would also argue that they are reporting the facts, not commenting the possible outcomes.

I think many people may feel or see it that way but I think there is a distinction (and accept often a fine line) between the reporting of events connected with a trial and what is essentially relatively 'uncontrolled' discussion about the same on a public forum, to which there is wide access. There are many cases where nationals have been found in contempt and dealt with. Interstingly enough, I note that the Speaker has recently warned MPs about discussing cases sub judice in connection with the 3 MPs on fraud charges over their expenses.

It is The Liverpool Echo though. I'm surprised they could do an article that isn't copied and pasted, as there grammar and spelling is usually awful.

Nope, it's what happens when we don't have an EDIT FUNCTION!! Sorry for shouting but if we SHOUT about it long enough maybe we'll GET ONE. And maybe not.

And: 'spelling and grammar ARE usually awful' ..and technically they would 'write' an article not 'do' an article. But that's just being picky!! ;-)

Essentially, this is the answer to the question. The reporting that there IS a trial in a Newspaper is not the same as talking ABOUT the trial. Allegations about the accused, the evidence etc may be made. Essentially, the contents of the case cannot be discussed until after it has finished. The rest of this topic has wandered well into the long grass now, and I propose to lock it. Jane
