I am presently reviewing how to implement the above directive into my Company .
I have been advised by my German Parent Company that they plan to purchase a machinery assessment software to ensure compliance - SAFExpert from IBF.
Do any members have experience using SAFExpert or could advise on any other Software that could be used for this task ie Laidler - Risk Management System ?
In addition what level of competence is required to complete a valid assessment using this software?
From my viewpoint all the paperwork is very good , but the main criteria must always be is it SAFE .

If you are in the UK, this Directive is implemented by the Supply of Machinery regulations 2008, SI 1597. These are aimed primarily at suppliers of machinery and lead to such things as CE marking.
If you are a supplier of machinery your company should have someone who knows all about this as you need a process for ensuring that your machinery is built to the right standards and meets all the Essential Health and Safety Requirements, which appear in the regulations. Suppliers also need to keep records, and there are many types of machinery that cannot be self certified.
If you are a user of machinery the suppliers should have taken care of the compliance with this Directive and should have CE marked it. As the user (in the UK) you then have to abide by the requirements of PUWER.

Afternoon all,
Safexpert I would suggest to be a pan-european product will be rooted in the EU Directive, not the member states adopted laws as in the machinery regs 2008.
Personally I have been involved with a machine built in uk, to german standards for use outside the EU by a prospective member state!.
So the parent company should be able to install it here without too much conflict between the EU directive and our SI regs.
May I further suggest reading the 92 Regs (which I know are now no longer enforceable) as they give a good indication as to the type of essential safety req we are looking for in UK.
2008 is more comprehensive in the annexes about considerations and exclusions so get a set from OPSI and enjoy many hours of reading and interprating!
Yours aye
