Hi can anyone recommend a good provider of PTTLS as a condensed 5 day course. If anyone can recommend one that is either in Yorkshire or is on-line learning (plus attendance at classroom examination) that would be even better.
Does anyone have any opinion as to how worthwhile doing the combined PTLLS with First Aid Instructors certificate is? To my undertsanding no First Aid Instructors certifictae is actuallly required (just the first aid qualification obviously).
Thanks

Hi Claire,
That's how I read as well. I did C&G 7307 parts 1&2 and am a qualified 1st aider (just hope nobody who knows me puts 2 & 2 together)

Hi Claire,
If you have a look at the amended H&S (First Aid) regs 2009 - Then you will see that First Aid can now only be provided by a HSE Accredited (With Registartion number shown on certification) Provider.
So as a new instructor you need to be aligned with a FAAMS & HSE Accredited training centre, and for at least 2 years you can only provide their course under their accreditation.. Following this on completion of a number of audited courses you can apply to become a stand alone centre..
I do not know of any centre that would not require you to complete their Instructor Course. St John's are obviously the most well known, I am currently in year 2 of First Aid instruction with Lynceus Training based in Gloucestershire - They offer PTLLS & First Aid Instructor Course including Paediatric and AED (Defib) Training over 2 seperate weeks for around £1100 plus VAT. You need to be FAW qualified to get on course, and a deal can be done if you hold Teacher (PTLLS C&F 7307 etc) status.
I hope this helps...

I'm a sole trader Mike and not intending to become an accredited centre with the HSE. Hoping to boost my self employment opportunities in difficult times by offering my services on a casual / contract basis with accredited centres (I have already spoken to some and one provider is interested in my services as long as I have PTLLS as well as FAW). So I'm looking at what PTTLS options there are and then I stumbled on this PTTLS with Instructor training and wondered whether it was worthwhile.
I don't think I need the First Aid Instructor Course with PTTL but there are quite a few that are not much more expensive than just doing the PTTLS as a condensed course. So I wondered whether people merited doing the additional instructor part with the PTTLS.
No offence but £1100 plus VAT is pretty expensive, there are much cheaper out there and Gloucestershire is pretty far from me anyway. Thanks all the same.

Hi claire
The PTTLS is around £550 and courses are becoming more popular, e.g we have one linked in with the CIEH, so people start off with the Pro Trainer and then finish on the PTTLS qual. A 6 day course. As the courses are accredited there are quite a few awarding bodies out there, so the learning will be pretty much the same - just the delivery style that will differ.
Yorkshire, again their is funding out there for redundancy and the enhancement fund for part funding. In hull theres the 75 % funding through the skills fund. But perhaps hold your horses another month or two as I hear over hear they are rolling it out for free...
And just to add, we do not have the funding, so I am not promoting our delivery of the course.
Regards
Linda

I would talk to your local college or adult education group as they are often the most cost effective - but I doubt you will get a straight 5 day this route. The costs of this course are rising astronomically via the commercial route in my view.

Claire, did the PTLLS as night school here in Bath- well worth doing as it has improved my presentaion skills- but the point thta has been made elsewhere is true- this course is being increasingly oversubscribed at local colleges whic offer the cheapest deal, so if you find a provider get your name down quick.
Good luck.

Claire - I think you have your answer but just to clarify the post at #3 - I don't think that the FA regs have been amended nor are they dated 2009. They remain the H&S (FA) Regs 1981 BUT the ACoP and guidance have been amended. Similarly, I believe that the requirement to be HSE registiered to provide FAW courses is not new nor a result of the 2009 amendment but that this has been a requirement for as long as I can recall.

Claire
I started this course last Wednesday at my local college. The course is in the evenings and lasts 12 weeks, I paid £210.
The contents seems interesting and I am hoping it will improve my confidence and presentation skills. I have recently started my own business and and one client.... I am hoping to gain a few more soon.
Good luck :)
