Hi All, New to the forums and i've just joined IOSH. I'm currently looking for a new job, my experience is mainly in the Railway Industry but I'm open to any offers. I hold NEBOSH National General Cert, IOSH Managing Safely, City & Guilds 7331 Certificate in Training Techniques and A1 Assessor, my railway competencies are PTS AC/DC & Lookout. I would be grateful for any response. I live in Ilkeston, Derbyshire if any locals fancy getting together for a chat.

If you specialise in the railway industry mate, i suggest that that is where you look, im a safety advisor for a demolition company and i personally wouldnt know too much about railways, except that trains use them often, you really need to work in the field that you specialise in.

Hi Rick, Thanks for your reply. Although my main experience is in railways its covered many areas e.g civils, construction, some environmental etc so i've got quite a wide spread, and I hope my skills and experience can be used in other areas. Regards Clive

Rick A competent H&S professional should be able to apply their skills to any sector, which is one reason why HSE move their staff from one sector to another and when I joined would not let me anywhere near the sector I had been working in for several years. Those new to a sector can often add value as they do not have preconceptions as to whether "custom and practice" within the sector are acceptable standards. So, Tat employers from other sectors may see your experience as valuable, whilst noting that you may need to think about a cut in package to move out of rail, where salaries tend to be inflated by a traditional expectation that a health and safety adviser should have 5 years rail experience, thence limiting the supply chain and preventing the added value of someone without tunnel vision - this is changing, but slowly! Regards, Peter
