hi all
I appear to be going around in circles with this one.
As a business we a seeking to import a band saw from the USA, I have contacted BSI and also UKAS.
Could anybody please advise what I need to satisfy current health and safety standards?
And who could carry out a conformity assessment.
i have no idea to-date of the band saws history, or use,
Many thanks
Dave

This publication may help: http://www.berr.gov.uk/files/file49954.pdf(Do check the currency of this document - this used to be BERR business, the Government seem to have rebranded this as BIS. (I do try to keep up -honest)).

Whether the machine is new or used you will take on the responsibility in law as the importer (manufacturer). You will be responsible for ensuring that it meets all relevant legislation up to and including compliance with current EU directives such as the M/C directive as appropriate. You will have issues doing this without info from the manuf' or from a specialist body. They are around, i have used them, can't name them in the forums though AUG's etc.

cheers Ron Paul
Paul if we decide to have the band saw imported through a UK supplier does this mean that they will take on the role of the responsible person?

david, Yes it does, however, they may not realise this! It will not necessarily absolve you fully of responsibility, you need to check and agree terms etc. lawyers may be needed! You will still need to comply with PUWER98.
