Given the recent weather and media attention on this topic and now that the worst is over, should there be a proper debate on this topic to clear the matter once and for all?

There are widely differing views on this; some views appear to be based on experience, some on fact and some from who knows where. What are your views?

I would like to see IOSH run an online debate or webinar on this, would you?

End decision would be that it is up to the individual company to decide their own level of action - so no thanks

OMG! Can't see this one being sorted 'once and for all' without some additional prescriptive legislation.

Not for me though - sorry - it seems to have been debated countless times, with little consensus

Steve

I'm not really sure what the problem is with gritting. Gritting say a car park at work or a walkway is the responsible thing to do whether you are an employer or occupier of the premises. If someone falls and injures themself and the employer/occupier did not take reasonable measures, then they leave themself open to possible prosecution, but more likely a civil claim. Apart from that, preventing injuries through basic controls is part of good management - simples.
