Hi all

(this really is not an area i am familiar with)

anyway..............

We have recently purchased a band saw from a supplier in the UK who has had it imported from the USA.

We have not put it into use as under PUWER regulation 10 it has no CE marking, If we where to use it and someone gets injured then we are liable to be prosecuted. It has been isolated.

It also has no documentation no technical file etc as I also understand it may have been modified.

Correct me if I am wrong, but would it now be for the UK supplier act as the responsible person to ensure it is CE marked and meets current standards and also to provide a technical file

e.g. satisfies the requirements of:

The machinery directive
The Low voltage directive
EMC

In order to meet legal requirements

best wishes

Yes. The onus is on your supplier to provide the necessary safety information and documentation, including CE marking.

Hi,
As I understand it the UK supplier of machinery imported from outside the EU must ensure that it meets all the requirements of the Supply of Machinery Safety Regs. INDG270 at http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/indg270.htm should answer all your questions.
