Does anybody have any suggestions or knowledge of training for trainers courses. There seems to be plenty about but which are the best and most recognised in our profession. Im not talking task specific here more putting together courses and then delivering them in a structured meaningful way.

Hi Malcolm,
The CIEH train the trainer is quite widely recognised as a professional trainers certificate. It is not task or subject specific - its more of a presentation skills course over several days.
There are lots of training centres all over the country who provide it....
Hope this helps!

Hi Malcolm,
While the CIEH course will cetainly fill the bill for most purposes, it's also worth considering the City & Guilds 730 series. I did the 730-7 part 1 (which may well now be called something different), and although I had to commit to 10 half-day sessions I did get a thorough grounding in some aspects of educational theory, rather moreso than would have been available through a shorter course. The C&G courses are also structured to allow people to progess; for example I could have done the 7307-2 and from there moved to Cert Ed. That was rather more than I needed, but if I had been intending to make a career out of training (for example) it would have given me a good strong competitive edge,

Hi
The CIEH PTC is a good one to get a view into training techniques, though it is being withdrawn and updated over the next few months. Another option is the PTTLS - preparing to teach in life long learning. If you catch the CIEH courses right you should be able to do the PTC with a PTTLS conversion.
Your decision will be based on the people you want to teach - are they paying or is government body paying?
Regards
Linda
