Hi all,

I am looking for some guidance as to working out the maximum occupancy levels, I have carried out some research but can't seem to find any details as to calculations for an indoor ski environment. Basically we have extended an area within our building by some 200 square meters and woud like to look to increase the maximum occupancy figures.

The original figures were determined by the fire consultant at the time of the build in 2005, the original figures were 645 maximum persons.

Any help with regards to the calculation that I need to use or general advice would be much appreciated.

Regards

Paul

Morning Paul

Simply put it varies, so what I have included here is information from Gloucester FB and a LA link. They should enable you to make the calculation/s you need.

There is a simple method of course. Look at existing permitted figures, calculate additional footprint, consider additional exits, and come up with a justifiable number which is detailed and why in your premises FRA.

Anyway, have a good read of these.

I assume you are a licensed site thus falling in this area (oh dear, no pun intended)

Thanks CFT, our operation is based in the Middle East where there are many grey areas with regards to fire safety. As a result, I base many of our standards and compliance on UK best practice.

Thanks for the links, I will look at these.

In terms of UK standards, these are all based on the UK Building Regulations "Approved code" downloadable from www.planningportal.gov.uk. if you wanted to apply these the design of fire safety in (UK) buildings is set out in great detail.

Lots to read through. Specifically for a precis, have a look at approved document B appendix C, but as Dave said, all the stuff you need should be there. Also approved document M will give some guidance in terms of planning for means of escape for disabled persons should you need that.

All the best Paul

Martin
