Anyone got a decent COSHH procedure? (preferably in word!)

Sorry if this post is already on here somewhere but I keep getting an error message when I search.

Cheers

HSE has to be a good place to start: http://www.hse.gov.uk/coshh/index.htm

I take it that you mean a procedure for doing a COSHH risk assessment?

Yes start with HSE website.

However I would summarise thus:-

- Find out what materials you have, what form they are in, how much you have
- Gather hazard / classification info eg from MSDS, EH40, ASL info
- Find out how they are used. You may have to do separate sections of the asssment for different tasks or individual assessments
- Look at routes of exposure
- Determine of exposure is acceptable eg against the WEL - you may have to measure
- Review / list / add to control measures - use COSHH hierarchy of control
- Consider health effects monitoring
- Record sig findings
- Communicate to workers
- Monitor

Hope this helps

PJW send me your email and I'll send you an example of what we use for assessing Coshh from the MSDS's. Do note there may be a delay in replying as our IT dept are playing with the system!

Others have missed the first steps in your Procedure, which is to constructively challenge the products you are using (or creating) to determine if safe(r) alternatives exist. The heirarchy is clear in the COSHH Approved Code of Practice. I know it's a lengthy tome, but the ACoP is in essence a Procedure for ensuring compliance?
