Hi, We are currently in processing of changing our shift patterns to 12 hour rotating shifts requiring staff to work afternoon and night shifts- some for the first time. I want to get hold of a training dvd/presentation regarding circadian rhythms to provide some advice on good practices and issues to be aware of. However I cannot find anyone who produces this kind of material - would anyone be able to send me link to a provider or anyone have a presentation? Thanks,

Hi, Might be worth looking through the HSE guidance on shift work if you haven't already done so: http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/priced/hsg256.pdf Regards Steve

Thanks Steve, I have read the material and there is good stuff in Appendix 2. I just wondered if there was something already prepared to buy off the shelf as I'm completely overloaded with work right now and struggling to get through everything! I would love to prepare a presentation but i simply do not have the time to spend on it at present. Joys of being a 1 man safety team, eh! Thanks again

You could try and contact NISG http://www.nisg.org.uk/ I vaguely remember a presentation on this subject, the speaker may have been a Pricilla Woods from Schrader Electronics in Northern Ireland but I am not sure.

Try www.circadian.com or the book "The 24 hour society" by Dr Martin Moore Ede. I did a presentation last April on this subject at the Merseyside Branch, if you want to contact the Secretary Derek McStea, he will put you in touch with me and I can send you it if you like.

Depending on what budget you have access to, you could commission a safety ergonomist to scro[twrite and deliver an illustrated talk, which he/she or you convert into a video or DVD. A quaified safety ergonomist can interpret the available research in ways relevant to your workforce and mangement.
