Hi,
If your fleet is fitted with trackers that indicate speed, what do you do in terms of monitoring speeding and tackling staff?
And if you are seeing speed, but not the speed limit for the road, is it ethical to crack down on people who exceed 70mph on a motorway, but not even know about people doing 40 in a 30mph zone - where the risks are much higher.
Interested in your experiences

No personal experience.
i guess it would depend how advance your system is as most sat navs now come up with the speed limit of the road you are driving along i would have thought tracking systems would be similar?
I would haver thought having a company policy stating that all drivers are to comply with the highway code at all times failing to do so would result in disciplinary procedure. being able to prove they where speeding might be an issue but the comes expectation would be for them to comply. Also inspecting the driving license of all drivers on an annual basis to ensure they haven't been banned from driving yet you are still allowing them to drive company vehicles.
Similar policy on mobile phones as some companies require them to be set to answer phone at all times when driving so not even allowing hands free

Whilst you could have every suspicion of an employee's speeding you would have a very tough time proving that. Should you discipline an employee for 'speeding' as proved by, for example, a tracking device, evidence would need to be unequivicol given that the employee may take the matter before a tribunal.
How often is the tracker calibrated? What are the manufacturer's accuracy tolerances, etc.
I would suggest a better way is by offering better training and if really necessary the fitting of speed limiters (will also do wonders for fuel economy!), but this still does not combat speeding on roads with lower speed limits.
I agree with Phil - you should check driving licences, but would suggest that yearly is too large a gap between checks as an employee could be banned long before you know about it at your annual check.
