Advice sought.
I am currently in the process of re-drafting our Driver Safety Policy and I have some thoughts on what I wish to include, but do not want to make the policy too onerous. To this end I am hoping forum members can help me by answering the questions below on your own policy. There is much more included in the policy, but it is advice on these specific issues I require.
Does your policy;
1. Include the checking of drivers documents i.e. licence, MOT and insurance, for all drivers driving on company business, whether they have a company car or drive their own car?
2. If your policy includes the above, are these document checks undertaken by management or are they outsourced, such as to your company car provider?
3. Include guidelines regarding when to stay overnight to avoid tiredness and fatigue?
4. Ban the use of mobile phones completely or allow the use of hands-free systems?
5. Provide guidance on when further driver training should be provided?
Your help in answering these questions would be greatly appreciated, and I would request that anyone willing to provide this information should respond via PM.
Regards
Leon

1. Include the checking of drivers documents Yes - for anyone who drives on business, whoever the vehicle belongs to.
2. are these document checks undertaken by management Yes, by the driver's line manager with the record centrally held.
3. Include guidelines regarding when to stay overnight to avoid tiredness and fatigue? Sort of - it's mentioned as an option but the driver is expected to make the decision for themselves.
4. Ban the use of mobile phones completely or allow the use of hands-free systems? Completely - it's caused a lot of unrest, but the research shows it to be a necessary policy.
5. Provide guidance on when further driver training should be provided? Not yet
