Asbestos Awareness Training - Train the Trainer

I have a couple of clients in the construction sector who are looking at asbestos awareness training for their employees. Both companies have a training person on board who oversees the employee competence, carries out Toobox talks and in-house training on procedures. They want to send these individuals on a training course which would allow them to train the remainder of their employess. Does anyone know of a suitable Asbestos Awareness "train the trainer" course available? They are quite happy to travel but would consider an online training option.
Thanks for any help you can give

I will return to my favourite drum - without previous knowledge and experience of the work I think this is a risky option to undertake. Look at regulation 10 once again and I think you will see the root of my case!! Presuming that these people are not simply providing the annual refresher update training!!
This again has the vague odour of how do I do this training as cheaply and time efficiently as possible with a passing nod at the requirements of the syllabus

I would also welcome any information on this subject. We utilise staff who may encounter asbestos and require the competence only to identify and report back.
Thanks

Boblewis,
Clients are aware of content of Reg 10 however they do not intentionally carry out any work on or near asbestos. This is purely awareness training and they would rather this was provided by their in-house trainer (with many years construction experience) rather than use a generic online facility for all employees.
Whilst cost is a factor there are many other benefits including the fact it would be easier for them to organise their own work force and would allow them to provide training to small sub-contractors they use.

The requirement is to train for those who could foreseeably encounter and not simply for those intending to work - the latter is a separate syllabus. Intial training in awareness needs to fulfill the syllabus and is refreshed fully roughly every three years. Intermediate refresher training could be tool box talk type information. But even so training should be given by competent persons concerninhg asbestos and its hazards. Good training providers can readily adapt to the needs of a specific company
It is not simply a matter of training a trainer - it is one of competence. Competent means sufficient knowledge, skills, ability, training and experience as a minimum in the field of asbestos management and control. You may in fact be placing yourself beyond the scope of your PI insurance if you do not clearly state to your clients that their intention is unwise unless they can provide individuals who are already competent for asbestos work. Competent Trainer in constrruction does not necessarily equal competent trainer for asbestos work. Your clients have clearly not understood the reality of the work before them and what the regulations are asking.

Hi Brian,
Thanks for your message.
The training we deliver is Category 3 Asbestos Awareness, and is accredited by the United Kingdom Asbestos Training Association (UKATA).
This course covers the information employees need if they are likely to come into contact with asbestos containing materials.
If you are looking to train asbestos surveyors, then you should consider the BOHS S301 and P402 qualifications, alongside UKAS accreditations to ISO 17020.
Can I draw your attention to section 2 of HSG 264 (Asbestos: A Survey Guide) which specifies the competence levels employers will be looking for.
If I can be of any further assistance please let me know.
Regards,
Alex
