Hi
I am looking for a health and safety reference resource and would like to get some opinions as to what experiences forum members have. I have looked at Croners but am confused as to what they offer? I have looked at the i-croners which has too much information and the croners health and safety which looks like a hard copy resource. I would prefer an on-line resource or at least a CD rom version.
Any thoughts?

Hi
We have company access to IHS (The Occupational Health & Safety Infomation Service), I find it very useful as it contains HSE Acop's, Regs and also British Standard documents.

The Croner -i Professional is a great online resource that is continually updated and covers most construction related issues

Croner is a good source but is expensive. Some of their forms are a bit unimaginativeIf you join the British Safety Council you get access to Croner, badged as BSC for a lot less money. Add to that the HSE library which is now freely downloadable, the IOSH site as already mentioned and I think you will be well covered

We use the same resource as SGD, i.e. OHSIS which has what he refers to along with lots of other stuff, and unless Barbour has substantially improved has a much more powerful search facility.

I used to work for Technical Index (now IHS) and without being biased, the OHSIS product had many advantages over the other products in the market place (value for money, content and in particular searchability of information) they are based in Bracknell, give them a call they will give you a free demo.

It depends upon the type of information/templates/etc you are looking for.
The most comprehensive are IHS's (previously known as Technical Indexes) OHSIS and Barbour Index, but pricey-not less than around £ 2000 and if you include British Standards, much more around £ 3500--the coimplete sets if yoy want all the supplemenatary modules such as Fire, Chemical etc can be upto £ 5000. They are full text primary resources and include industry guidance too. However, now that the HSE has made available all their ACoPs and Guidance freely avialable as PDF's on the HSE Books website, those who were previously subscribing to either Barbour or IHS-OHSIS for primarily the HSE ACoPs and Giudance need not do so. However, if you have to refer frequently to British/European Standards and Industry Guidance, they are the only ones. I use IHS and it has some superior offerings. If you contact them, they will offer a free demo and possibly a trial.
Previously, there was more choice for the "secondary" resource, i.e. Croner and GEE, but with Croner's take over of GEE, its only one brand now. Croner has several products to maximise its potential. All are available on trial. There are some more such as Jordans, relatively less know, but value for money for some.
wWhen I looked at them, they has the best templates and were being offered on attending a well known safety organisations Diploma course foe some time.

Membership of BSC includes access to an information resource that originally was a GEE product tailor made for BSC.
Please feel free to contact me via PM.
