How are you finding this? Obviously it has only been in place for a short time but already we have had a number in that are contradictory - e.g namely employee not fit for work but one of the boxes ticked, all the boxes ticked.
When challenged by our works Dr the GP admitted he didin't really know what he was supposed to do - yet our union and the employee are of course 'on to us' to do the right thing. Of course it will need time to bed in but I am sceptical!!!

Barrie - Works Doc said seminar on this subject was organised for 'medics' and of those attending - seem to recall over 100 - only 2 were GP's rest were OH. Chatted to my GP recently about it while sitting in her chair and she said she had not received any guidance on it - so I gave her my take and she said that was useful!!! Guess there are those who read guidance and those who dont. Reading SHP other day article and I'm sure it stated that this note can be filled in NOT face to face........ Interesting times when we are battling to say we have done waht is required and the employee/union rep is challenging us based on a note from a third party not in the room.

Don't forget, GPs are a politically active and powerful bunch.
At a recent meeting I attended, one GP exclaimed that OH physicians train for an extra 3 years to qualify in their chosen subject and having qualified get a substantial salary uplift for the priveledge. Requiring GPs to complete fit notes without additional training or remuneration was 'an insult'. (I bet they would forget the insult if they were to be paid to take on this 'new; task, even without the additional OH training, but that's just a personal opinion!)
The speaker recieved a loud cheer and he and many others said they had no intention of completing fit notes, starting with a refusal to read the guidance issued.
