I think this may be a long shot but does anyone have a PPT about Nuclear Criticallity, accidents or incidents. I need a short presentation, 3 or 4 slides to start off a meeting, if anyone could point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Owen

There is an article on Wikipedia about this.
Basically don't make your uranium/fissile material in to a sphere.
If you do runaway ..... very fast

It would help to know a little more about the audience and the aspect you want to deliver. Do you want to explain the physics, or do you want to talk about other issues, such as the management failures?

ITER, thanks for the advice, I'll remember that.
Jane, I'm looking for 2 or 3 slides for a brief insight into management failures associated with an accident or incident relating to nuclear criticallity which is the safety topic of the week.
Most of the people calling in are not from the nuclear industry so something simple and visual.
Thanks for the replies

I don't have any slides, I'm afraid.
An example of an incdient of this kind is the Tokaimura Accident. There is a lot about this on the web, including management failures. Much of the published info. is probably only relevant to people in the nuclear industry but hopefully you can find something usable. From memory, one factor was a routine disregard for safety rules by staff - management effectively ignored and/or endorsed this.

I don't have a PPT and nor is it my industry, but there are to my recollection a handful of examples, the usual suspects 3 mile, cher and tok as already mentioned. I did do a short case study on my nebosh course, soo many years ago and you might want to have a look at http://www.loe.org/shows...3-00003&segmentID=1.
Me? I like ITERS advice! RUN! And as silly as it sounds you may want to use that in your presentation.

I believe that I may have some Powerpoint slides of use to you; you can reach me at 020 8654 0808
Alternatively, the safety ergonomist Andy Brazier may be able to help you and that you can reach him through www.andybrazier.co.uk
