Would like to get peoples opinions on this please. After the interview you are told by the interviewer that they will be in contact by a certain date (within 3 days so tight schedule), the day comes and goes without contact. How long do you leave it before ringing them and how do you approach it? Bit of a dilema. Solo!

Solo, never been it the same position in regards to the tight deadline; but I always ring to ask for feedback as to why I had been unsuccessful - you could try the line that you are assuming that you have been unsuccessful (deadline has passed) and would like some feedback if possible. It could be that there has been an unforeseen delay in the process. Good Luck, Stu

I'd try the "did you try to get hold of me yesterday? I'm sorry I was out all day" approach and put them on the spot rather than assuming you have failed. If you did the latter and it turned out you had succeeded it would look a bit silly wouldn't it!

Personally I can see nothing wrong in phoning up the company and saying that you had an interview and was told you would be contacted within a certain timescale but have heard nothing and so you were wondering what the current situation was. It shows enthusiasm. They may even be seeing who does follow up. Show some confidence and assertiveness and just phone them. Good luck.

Thanks everyone for your advice. I made the call this morning and have been verbally offered the job, just waiting for the formal offer to be sent through post. Happy......OH YES! Solo!
