This is a new one to me, so hope somebody may be able to help! I work for a housing association and we own a property with a biomass boiler, which is fuelled by wood pellets. The pellets are stored in a hopper and fed into the boiler automatically. I've now been approached by 2 people (seperately, although I suggest chinese whispers!) to warn me that the pellets, if they become damp, omit carbon monoxide - clearly a bit of a worry if true! I've done some googling and have found that this is an issue for the bulk storage of wood pellets on container ships (fortunately we're not in that business) but nothing on small scale storage. I've obviously requested the MSDS from the supplier but until that arrives, and based on my pessismism that it is unlikely to mention CO emmission, does anyone have any thoughts or views on this. I'd be amazed if it is an issue but you never know - I'm certainly not going to fuel (excuse the pun) the elfinsafety debate by making any pronouncement on this until I have clear evidence that it is a problem.
