Apologies if this subject has been discussed before, but I am interested in emigrating to Australia and would like to know if our qualifications (Nebosh NVQ4 and NEBOSH Diploma) are transferrable.
Also I notice we have had a few threads from our Australian friends on the forums recently and would like to know if IOSH is recognised by Australian recruiters and in particular persons holding CMIOSH status.
All information will be gratefully received (especially people who are working out there or are Australian citizens.)
Thanks
Matt

I believe that CMIOSH is recognised in Australia. Send an email to carolyn.issitt@iosh.co.uk and she will give you a definitive answer.

Hi, I am currently living and working in Adelaide and UK based qualifications are not held as important as experience, my employer has instructed the help of a H&S consultancy and they have never heard of IOSH or NEBOSH. I am hoping to finish a Recognition of Prior Learning programme in October so as to be awarded a Diploma in H & S. I am a Tech' member and have NEBOSH General, Fire Certificate and Environmental Certificate. This is costing about $1500 and will probably have to fork out extra to cover the legislation modules before a final rubber stamp.
I think where you go can make a huge difference, Brisbane and Sydney can be a tough market as quite like London and any other vibrant place, here in Adelaide there seems to be some opportunities and that is good for myself to build more experience, someone of your level would walk into any H&S position in Adelaide, check out SafeworkSA.com.au for jobs, they are like HSE and pay around $75000 p.a for a Principal Officer.
I only headed out here in April so my own experiences are limited, feel free to ask anything if you are looking for anymore info.

As an Aussie OH&S advisor I can honestly say that I think you will find the majority of employers and recruiters here will have absolutely no idea what iosh or nebosh are and will still require you to hold relevant Australian qualifications..
The majority of recruitment here is handled by people with very little knowledge of the global OH&S scene and relevant qualifications, and for them the easiest way to ensure their people are appropriately qualified is to stick with what they know - eg Australian Certificate IV, Diploma or Advanced Diploma in OH&S and tertiary qualifications. That being said, it should be a fairly simple process to seek RPL from any of the Australian institutions in order to acquire those qualifications.
The main difference, and a fairly valid argument for requiring Australian qualifications, is the difference between our legislative frameworks and the required knowledge of Australian OH&S legislation and how to achieve compliance.
If you hold a tertiary qualification in OH&S (eg a degree or above) then you will find it easier to argue the case for transferance than if you hold a vocational (eg certificate or diploma) qualification...
