So, I need to train staff in hazard symbols and do some internal labeling of product storage locations....

Which system should I now be using?

The new Global Harmonised System is now being refered to with the deciline in the use of the old COSHH symbols, but this is a gradual change to be completed by ist June 2015

Is it too early to change my internal labeling?

Which system should I be using?

It's certainly not too early to start using the GHS versions. Personally i would be looking to provide guidance on both versions, as there is every chance that employees will be seeing both the CHIP (orange and black) and GHS (white diamond with red border) versions on various chemicals/products over the next couple of years whilst the change over progresses. For your own labelling I would look to use the new GHS versions.

I have sent you a PM with some info which might be of interest. I also have various powerpoint presentations relating to GHS that I have picked up over the past 12 months if you want a copy.

I agree with the above response. What's more the changes will occur quicker than the June 2015 date, with pure substances needing to work to the GHS from Dec 2010! Also, remember that its not just the symbols that are changing but also the basis for classifcation and R&S phrase are being replaced by H&P phrases.

Has anyone got any good links to training materials / posters etc about the new symbols?
I was asked earlier and then saw this thread and thought I might as well ask :)

Thanks

Would I be correct in saying that all current COSHH assessments will have to be re-visited with the introduction of the new symbols?

teh-boy, if you PM your email address I will forward you the info that I sent to fouldsyfoulds which includes a couple of powerpoint presentations and a range of advisory signage that we have developed to help get the message across.
