In accordance with legislation we do not charge for PPE, but at what point, if at all, could we charge? An example I would give is where we have issued safety glasses and they have been lost within 24hours or damaged, My employers are wanting to charge individuals where they consistantly abuse PPE. Is this possible?

No, if they are truly abusing their PPE then there is the option of disciplinary action just as if they were abusing any other company property. It might be better to look at what is causing the PPE to be lost or damaged.

I have said absolutely not to any charge being levied on any PPE and that monitoring controls would be a better solution. Also, those that have had disciplinary action have seldom re-offended. Just reading the ACOP and Section 9 of HSWA that re-affirms my beliefs. Many thanks
