Hello all,

One is attempting to audit maintenance and essentially this is covered by Reg. 5 of PUWER. Under para. 120 I have come across the words 'more complex powered equipment' . Can anyone define what equipment would be covered by this term?

In reference to my audit I wil be looking at the activities of a facilites department that has the use of many different types of work equipment such as powered woodworking equipment, ride on lawn mowers, chainsaws, hedgecutters a JCB digger and dumper truck.

Any help and advice would be most gratefully received.

The way I interpret 'more complex powered equipment' in the definition in para 124 in the ACOP is anything which isn't a basic non powered hand tool ie spanner, chisel, hammer etc.

Therefore all the items you've mentioned above, in my opinion, come into the 'more complex' definition

Hi Fewy,

I would agree with walkera, I have previously interpreted 'more complex powered equipment' as any equipment that has moving parts that can cause injury if they fail.

We used condition based maintenence where 'monitoring the condition of safety critical parts' included daily operator checks on E-stops on lathes.
