Hi Does anyone know of any standards / statutory requirements applying to the preventative maintenance of company buildings regards lucinda

I might be barking up the wrong tree here, but...Regulation 4 of The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006 places a duty to manage asbestos in non-domestic premises. A more comprehensive guide is available to duty holders in the form of HSG227. Free to download from HSE interweb. My opinion is that this would constitute preventative maintenance.

Generally covered by Section 2 of HASAWA but there will be statutaory inspection and test frequencies for a number of building related issues such as electical periodic testing, PAT, fire alarm systems, legionalla, etc. That's a bit general, but hopefully a pointer in the right direction.
