Hi all, I've just been looking at a web site which has an easy to follow guide on crash helmet safety (for motorcycles).(http://sharp.direct.gov.uk/testhelmetlist) I know that there is an EN number for hard hats but shouldn't there be an 'easy guide' to select the right kit. Thoughts please.

Partly depends on the manufacturer, I suppose - Shoei and Arai are perhaps the better known best safety helmets (- hard hat? Get a grip. You will be calling them skid lids next -) but they have a different 'fit', one being better for a thinner face/head width. Also, a really good helmet in terms of safety has the price hiked up by a couple of hundred quid just because it is Troy's or Valentino's most recent pattern.
Maybe there are too many variables to make it an easy guide to create, bearing in mind those helmets which are no face, full face, those which have the front able to be totally raised ( I am thinking some of the Shoei Police helmets, Roof etc) and some of the helmets which cost £30 but are still legal. That really is criminal.

...really criminal in that they charge £300 plus for some thing that is fashionable and overpriced or criminal that a company sells crash helemts for £30.00. that will do the same/similiar job like for like?
